It’s official! California Senator Kamala Harris was chosen to be Joe Biden’s running mate in his presidential run!
The presumptive Democratic nominee announced that he was really ‘proud’ to have Kamala as his potential vice president after months of speculations.
Kamala’s pick made history since she is the first Black woman as well as the first person with Indian heritage to get nominated for national office by such a major party.
Furthermore, she also follows as only the fourth woman in America to appear on the ballot for national office, the ones before her being – Sarah Palin, Geraldine Ferrarro and Hillary Clinton.
Joe Biden took to his Twitter account to confirm his choice, writing: ‘I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate. Back when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked very closely with Beau. I watched as they took on all the big banks, lifted up the working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I am proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign.’
Not too long after, Kamala Harris also released her own official statement, writing on her platform that: ‘@JoeBiden can unify the American people because he’s spent his life fighting for us. And as president, he’ll build an America that lives up to our ideals. I’m honored to join him as our party’s nominee for Vice President, and do what it takes to make him our Commander-in-Chief.’
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were not always on the same page but were eventually united by their common dislike of Donald Trump and his administration.
