Two men have been charged with murder after a man was allegedly punched and then assaulted while he was on the ground outside a pub Queensland.
A 21-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, both from Gympie, were originally charged with grievous bodily harm before their charges were upgraded in Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday.
The charges come after Queensland Police confirmed a 41-year-old man died early on Sunday after he suffered serious head injuries during an attack outside the Queenslander Hotel on Mary St in Gympie.
“Around 2am yesterday morning November 19, members of the public rendered first aid to the man after it is alleged he was punched and fell hitting his head on the roadway,” a Queensland Police spokesperson said.
“It is alleged the man continued to be assaulted while he was on the ground.
“The 41-year-old man from Lagoon Pocket was flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition but has today passed away from his injuries.”

Investigators later arrested the two Gympie men, with police initially reporting they had arrested a 24-year-old man at an address along Horseshoe Bend.
The man was later taken into police custody where he assisted police with their inquiries, leading to the arrest of a second man.
Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the assault, or who has dashcam or CCTV footage from Mary St or Horseshoe Bend, to contact them.
